UL halts AIE-C; PAMMA defeats PUNP
3rd JIMMY FERNANDEZ CUP
THE University of Luzon Golden Tigers stopped AIE-College Golden Eagles’ winning streak when the Tigers dealt the Eagles their first loss in three games, 88-79, in the elimination round of the Inter-Collegiate Invitation Basketball Championship of the 3rd Jimmy Fernandez Cup, last Thursday at the DWAD Gym, Dagupan.
Mangaldan townmates Mark Denver Maure and Alick Aquino combined for 42 points to spoil the quest of the Eagles to stay unbeaten in the double round elimination tournament. Eagle Jeffrey Yanes’ 28 points did not affect the Tigers’ momentum to win.
In the second game, the University of Eastern Pangasinan Patriots beat winless Lyceum-Northwestern University Dukes.
The PAMMA Sea Lions took a “walk the park” as they won by forfeiture over Urdaneta City-based PUNP Cruisers whose service vehicle got stuck and the team was not able to make it in time for the scheduled game.
The win-loss cards of the teams are: UWP 4-1; AIE-C 2-1; PAMMA 2-1; UL3-2; PUNP 1-2; LNU 0-2; PIMSAT 0-5—Philamer Celi
