SAN FABIAN–A vital flood control project at the Bued River in Barangay Binday here will be completed by April to help the town from erosion and flooding during the rainy season.

The structure replaces an old one that was washed out during the flood caused by Typhoon Pepeng in 2009.

Since then, Barangay Binday and other adjacent villages have been experiencing constant flooding when the Bued River overflows owing to heavy rains.

Some 50 hectares of agricultural lands in Barangay Binday have been eroded due to these floods.

The P76 million project is an initiative of 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia who allocated P40 million from her Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and sourced another P36million from the budget of the Department of Public Works  and Highways (DPWH)

De Venecia said the project is “the first line of defense” of San Fabian from flooding.

At the same time, De Venecia announced that the bidding for the construction of the P28- million Longos Bridge, also in San Fabian, has just been completed.

Next to undergo bidding is the construction of the P11 million Rabon Bridge while the construction of irrigation canals in Barangay Binday, Anonang, Mabilao, Lipit-Tomeeng and Palapad, all costing P25 million, will follow.

Prior to these projects, 37 farm-to-market roads costing P54.5 million were completed in 34 of the town’s barangays.
