Northern Luzon Cruise to be launched
A CRUISE along the western coast of the northern Luzon area will be launched by an international business and marketing group to help bring in more tourists in the region and promote local products.
The ship, with a 200-passenger capacity, will dock in Pangasinan’s coastal cities of Alaminos and Dagupan, with accompanying trips to the interior parts such as Manaoag, a popular pilgrimage site for Catholics.
Other stops will include the beaches of La Union province, the heritage city of Vigan, Baguio City, the Banaue Rice Terraces, and Subic Bay in Zambales.
The project will be undertaken by the Northern Explorer Development Corporation headed b Wilson de Vera, a consultant to Governor Amado Espino Jr. on overseas projects.
De Vera said the Northern Luzon Cruise will eventually be complemented by similar efforts in southern Philippines to cash in on the tourism potentials of the country’s more than 7,000 islands.
“It’s a pity that we are not maximizing our God-given wealth,” De Vera said.
The company has formed a special committee that will coordinate with local government units for the marketing of their indigenous products.
Northern Explorer has business linkages within Asia as well as other countries such as Papua New Guinea.
BUSINESS PROSPECTS
Meanwhile, De Vera is calling for closer government-business partnership in creating new industrial and commercial zones in key areas within central Pangasinan.
He pointed out that central Pangasinan is host to three cities and some of the biggest municipalities in the province that are rich in both natural and human resources as well as infrastructure.
Speaking during a multi-sectoral assembly in Dagupan recently, De Vera said Dagupan, San Carlos, Urdaneta, Calasiao and Bayambang are now proving to be ideal sites for new business endeavours and could get further boost through international linkages, particularly in agriculture, communications, management, marketing services and tourism development.
“Pangasinan is not lacking in excellent potentials in business and investments growth, owing to its vast natural and human resources, and its strategic location right at the Luzon heartland, in close proximity to Metro Manila, the nerve center of government and business operations, and whose vast coastline opens to both the China Sea and the Pacific Ocean, thus to the world,” De Vera said.
