PROTEST UPHELD

THE Metro Dagupan team has been declared by the Private School Athletic Association (PRISAA) Regional Screening Committee as the official winner of the basketball championship in the 22nd PRISAA Regional Collegiate Games held October 27-30 last year in Dagupan City.

As champion, Metro Dagupan, composed mostly of players from the Lyceum-Northwestern University, has earned the right to represent PRISAA Region I in the PRISAA National Collegiate Games to be held in Cebu City and Tagbilaran City, Bohol, on April 22-28.

Metro Dagupan lost the championship game with La Union but placed the game under protest on question of the eligibility of one La Union player whom they charged to have played beyond the reglamentary period of seven years from the date of graduation from high school.

The PRISAA Regional Screening Committee, after thorough verification of all documents and records submitted and made available, ruled that the protested player, who was instrumental in La Union’s victory, did violate the rule on eligibility.

The committee further ruled that in accordance with existing PRISAA Rules, all the games in the recent regional competition won by the La Union team in which the ineligible player participated were forfeited in favor of the opponents.

The Laoag City, Ilocos Norte team placed runner-up to Metro Dagupan.–Philamer Celi
