Kapitan wounded in gun attack
SAN FABIAN—Armed men riding in tandem on a motorcycle struck again, this time shooting and wounding the chairman of Barangay Nibaliw Narvarte last January 25.
Recto Orjeda, 57, was wounded after he was shot in Barangay Sagud Bahley and later rushed to the Villaflor Doctors Hospital in Dagupan City.
He sustained one gunshot wound fired from a Caliber 45 pistol as evidenced by four empty shells found near the crime scene.
Investigation showed the incident happened at 5:55 p.m. when Orjeda was seated at the front seat of a barangay patrol vehicle driven by his son Roger accompanied by one Joel Plasiqueas.
The gunman on board a motorcycle opened fire when their patrol vehicle stopped in front of a water refilling station.
Despite his father’s wound, Orjeda and his companion drove to the police station to report the incident before proceeding to the hospital in Dagupan City.
The younger Orjeda confirmed his father has been receiving death threats that may have stemmed from a land dispute. He declined to elaborate.
He told the police there were two suspects, both wearing crash helmets, riding a red Honda Wave motorcycle without a plate number.
Chief Inspector Domingo Soriano, chief of police of San Fabian, said a manhunt on the suspects is ongoing.
The incident took place just after the town fiesta of San Fabian, and about a year after the barangay kapitan of Tocok, Arsenio Bucao, was killed at the height of the town fiesta in 2011.
