FIDE Master Pascua tops 2 chess tourneys

LINGAYEN—International Chess Federation (FIDE) Master Haridas Pascua, pride of his hometown Mangatarem, topped two chess tournaments held here in the last week of December.

Pascua tallied a total of 5 points to win the 32-field Libsong East Chess Tournament held December 29 and 30 at Barangay Libsong East here.

Two days earlier, Pascua also won the 3rd Ernesto ‘Jonas’ Castañeda Jr. Cup Chess tournament.

Prince Mark Aquino posted the same score as Pascua’s, but lost for having a lower tie-break score.

Pascua and Aquino received P3,250 each.

Provincial champion Dick Gicain and Robert Bautista, with 5.5 points each, completed the winners’ row.

They were followed by Cherry Ann Mejia, Giovanni Mejia, Narquinden Reyes, Zaldy Falcon, and Casiano Torres, with 4 points.

The tournament was organized by the Pangasinan Chess Federation (PCF) and sponsored by the Barangay Libsong East of this town.

The PCF will organize another tournament in Bugallon town this month. (PIA-Pangasinan)
