A PLAN is being drawn up for the re-development and marketing of the Malimgas Market, which has since been referred to by residents as the Maringot (dirty) Market.

The City Tourism and Investment Promotion Center (CTIPC) drafted the plan as part of Mayor Benjie Lim’s goal of positioning the city as a clean and orderly place to invest in.

“We need to prepare Malimgas Market for that marketing drive,” said executive assistant III Deborah Castillo of the city mayor’s office.

Members of the CTIPC technical working group (TWG) composed of department heads and technical consultants met last week to discuss strategies for the development and promotion of the market that was built under the previous term of Lim.

One of the strategies being mulled is the production of two brochures promoting the sale of stalls.

Another is the lowering of the stall rental rates to attract more lessees in the many vacant spots.

Regular events such as a “Cancionan ed Malimgas” to draw in crowds is also being proposed.

The lack of parking space, proper waste disposal and overall cleanliness, and general order in the market were among the concerns raised.

Ranul Mejia, another technical consultant to the center, proposed that the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) be invited to the next meetings to help secure financial support through a supplemental budget.(CIO)
