DAGUPAN City is sending P100,000 each to Cagayan de Oro and Iligan to help the victims of Typhoon Sendong, which devastated parts of both cities in mid-December.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution last week, authored by Councilor Alfie Fernandez, approving the request made by Mayor Benjie Lim to extend financial assistance to the two areas in northern Mindanao.

Lim’s request is based on Republic Act No. 10121 or “An Act of Strengthening the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System” that allows local government units to extend financial assistance to those areas affected by calamities.

Lim also said it is to “heed the call of the League of Cities of the Philippines.”

The P200,000 will be sourced from Dagupan’s Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council fund.– Allanah Paragas, UPB
