BUGALLON celebrated on January 12 its annual fiesta in honor of Gen. Jose Torres Bugallon, a local hero after whom the municipality was named.

Started in 1994 through the initiative of then Vice-mayor Ernesto Mata, the one-day festivity also puts the spotlight on carabaos, an important helper for farmers in this largely agricultural town.

The main event featured a parade of the “best dressed” carabaos.

The celebration started with a Mass at the Orbuz Gymnasium, followed by a parade spearheaded by the town’s mayor, Rodrigo Ordua , and participated in by other local government leaders and teachers from the different schools in Bugallon.

There was also a basketball exhibition game between the members of the PNP Bugallon Station and the municipal employees, barangay officials and Department of Education.

Two new government buildings were also inaugurated, the veterans building and the slaughterhouse. – Joy Talay, UPB
