By January 7, 2012News, People & Events

BINMALEY is all set for its 2nd Sigay Festival beginning January 21, a celebration highlighting the town as the “Fishbowl of Pangasinan”.

The festival will coincide with the town’s where 422nd founding anniversary as well as the feast of the patron saint the Lady of Purificacion.

Gertrudes Reyes, executive chairperson of the event, said preparations are now being finalized for the various activities designed for locals, balikbayans, and other visitors for the two-week fiesta.

The Sigay Festival was initiated by Municipal Mayor Lorenzo “Enzo” Cerezo last year to help put the town in the tourism map of the Philippines not simply as the Fishbowl of Pangasinan but as the Seafood Capital of Northern Luzon.

Aquaculture is the number one industry in Binmaley and “sigay” is a Pangasinan word meaning “to harvest from the sea”.

Binmaley is a first class coastal town located between Dagupan City, Pangasinan’s commercial center, and Lingayen, the capital town. (with report from PIA Pangasinan)
