MOUNTAIN SANTAS

WE all know that song. And who does not know Santa Claus, one of the most popular symbols of the Christmas season?

Santa has come to symbolize giving and the joy of gifts, especially for children.

Up in the mountain city of Baguio, the University of the Philippines Subol Society (UPSS) Baguio Chapter live out every year what Santa Claus represents – generosity and sharing.

This year, the UPSS, a non-profit organization, conducted a repeat of their outreach program last year at the Kalinga ng Ama Foundation in Bonuan, Dagupan.

The UPSS Baguio Chapter prepared food, games, and goodie bags for the children living within the foundation’s abode.

The funds came from the money raised by the group’s carolling activity and donation from the organization’s alumni.

“When we got to the place, the children were very excited. But when we said our goodbyes, they were sad about it. We were really attached to them even though the outreach program lasted only for hours,” said UPSS Baguio’s president Pem Sacanle.

The outreach program every December is just one of the group’s various projects in Pangasinan.

“It is our honor and pleasure to bring back our service to our fellow Pangasinenses and to our beloved province, Pangasinan,” Sacanle said.– Cris Paragas, UPB
