‘Set your priorities’, Espino tells kapitans
LINGEYEN- -Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. has reminded all barangay officials to prioritize the needs of their indigent constituents, particularly their health which is one of the major thrusts of the provincial government.
This the governor issued the reminder during the Christmas party celebration of the Liga ng mga Barangay held December 13 at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center here with over 5,000 participants coming from the 1,333 barangay councils in the province.
Espino urged the barangay officials to deliver on the priority programs he has set for the federation since he assumed his post in July 2007, namely health, youth, senior citizens, and farmers.
He said that after an election, everything must start from the basic thrusts of development regardless of political inclination.
Barangay chairmen, he added, must implement programs and projects that will help their less-fortunate constituents.
ADDITIONAL FUNDS
As an expression of support, Espino pledged P2 million as additional funds for the federation to help finance their various programs and projects.
The governor also announced that all 1,333 barangays will receive grass cutters and water pumps before the end of January 2012.
Liga ng mga Barangay President Amadeo T. Espino thanked the governor, his elder brother, for fully supporting the organization.
The younger Espino also thanked the members of the federation for working hand-in-hand with him in all the Liga’s fund-raising activities that led to the collection of about P2.3 million for the group’s programs.
For his part, Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr. called on the barangay officials, considered as the front-liners of development, to continuously foster unity and cooperation among them who are.
Also gracing the affair were former Senator Miguel “Migz” Zubiri and Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian.
Gatchalian expressed admiration for the leadership of the Governor saying, “dadalhin ko po sa aming lungsod ang narinig at nakita ko tungkol sa Pangasinan.”
Gatchalian also commended the strong partnership between the Pangasinan local government and the 1,333 barangay councils.
Gatchalian was one the recent recipients of The Outstanding Young Men Philippines 2011 award for public service leading and making Valenzuela City the Best Governed Highly Urbanized City in the country. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
