Dagupan set to host national student basketball meet
DAGUPAN City will host the 64th National Student Basketball Championship (NSBC) on February 27- March 3 next year under the auspices of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP).
Graham Lim, BAP secretary-general, announced during a visit to Dagupan last week that the games will be participated in by the top 12 university teams from all over the country at the CSI Stadia, which is now being renovated for the event.
Among the participating teams is defending champion University of Cebu (UoC), representing Central Visayas, which boasts of its six foot-6 player Junmar Fajardo.
The other team that already qualified is University of Batangas for Region 4, while the other regional champions are still being selected in ongoing eliminations.
The winner of the five-day tournament will represent the country in the Southeast Asian level student basketball completion set in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in June next year.
The winner of the Southeast Asian competition will go to the Asian level where the champion will play in the Universiade, the international student basketball tournament.
BAP is headed by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, while BAP Region 1 director is Dagupan City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.
Fernandez, the only woman BAP regional director in the country, said she will ensure that Dagupan will do well in hosting the games.
