‘Balitok a Tawir’ grand finals held Dec. 2

LINGAYEN–The grand finals of the 1st Pangasinan Culture and Arts Festival dubbed “Balitok a Tawir” was held Friday, December 2 at the Sison Auditorium here.

Balitok a Tawir, which was launched as one of the highlights of the Tourism Month last September, aimed to recapture and rediscover the culture and arts of Pangasinan and further raise the level of awareness of the people of the diverse heritage of the province.

It was conceptualized by the present administration thru the stewardship of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. as a program that features Pangasinan culture, songs and dances that will catapult the province to become the center of culture and arts in the north.

Balitok a Tawir revolves on the core theme “Pangasinan: Luyag ko tan Yaman.”

Marife Acerit, Special Events chief, said the finalist from 14 local government units competed for the three categories: zarzuela, choral and folk dance.

The participating teams were composed of officials and employees of various local government units in Pangasinan.

Eight LGUs competed in the choral category, namely: Agno, Mabini, Manaoag, Calasiao, Bautista, Urdaneta and Natividad.

Finalists for folk dance competition were Agno, Binmaley, Lingayen, San Fabian, Malasiqui, Sta. Maria and San Manuel.

The LGUs of Agno and Manaoag are the contenders in the zarzuela category.

Pangasinan Culture and Arts Festival is a pet project of Espino as an effective measure of raising the awareness of the people to once again embrace their diverse culture and arts and further express one’s love for the province.

The provincial government also launched the “I love Pangasinan” campaign in its aim to revive and preserve arts and culture as well as to promote the “cleaning and greening” of public areas in all towns and cities of Pangasinan.

The competition culminated with the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree located at the Capitol plaza where the grand winners were also to be announced. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
