LINGAYEN – Supreme Court Administrator and spokesperson Jose Midas Marquez lauded Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. for his full support to the  “Enhanced Justice on Wheels” (EJOW) that held speedy court trials inside two customized buses at the Capitol Plaza last November 24 for a day.

With the theme “Our Courts are driven to serve you better”, Marquez said the EJOW aims to offer free legal services to accommodate and help “the poor and the disadvantaged in Pangasinan.”

EJOW is carried out on two mobile court buses with two sections; the front section serving as a courtroom, while the rear section serves as a mediation room.

Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Pangasinan Chapter President Farah Marie Decano also thanked Espino for the province’s assistance in the conduct of EJOW in the province.

For his part, Espino said the province is honored to have EJOW, especially the visit of Marquez in the province.

Espino likewise commended the SC for its efforts in upgrading the justice system, he pointed out that “this would be a great help to Pangasinenses to further understand our justice system.”

The governor also cited how the EJOW complements his thrust to help the poor populace in the province, as he cited some programs such as those related to health services.

The EJOW is divided into several components, the first being “Jail Decongestion” where some criminal cases are reviewed and litigated fast, and inmates with overstaying cases could be released.

Another is the “Case Decongestion”, where civil cases are evaluated and recommended for mediation.

The third component is the medical and dental mission in the provincial jail/city jail where, according to Marquez, over 13,000 inmates have already benefitted since the EJOW started.

On the other hand, the Dialogue with the Justice sector, aims to iron out simple legal issues affecting community residents through evaluation and recommendation of proper action needed.

There is also an information dissemination for the barangay officials to help them further understand the justice system and help solve disputes within their jurisdiction.

Malaking tulong na po ito kasi hindi na ito aakyat sa ating mga korte kasi naayos na ng mga barangay captains,” Marquez added. (PIO/Darwin Magalong)
