MANAOAG—Eighteen students were arrested when they attended an initiation rite by a still unidentified fraternity at the back of the Manaoag Central Elementary School last Tuesday.

SPO1Celeste Soriano of the Manaoag police station said the students are from the Manaoag National High School (MNHS) aged 14 to 15 years old and in third to fourth year.

As duty officer that time, Soriano immediately alerted his colleagues to go to the Manaoag Central School after receiving a report that an initiation rite was going on at the back of the campus.

Of the 18 students arrested, six were females.

The students were brought to the police station for investigation, but they all refused to name the fraternity or group that they were supposed to be joining.

The police said the students appeared fearful that the elder members of the fraternity will get back at them if they squealed.

The students were also subjected to counseling from representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

They were later released to their parents who, in turn, vowed to advise their children about risks joining fraternities that require initiation.

The police appealed to parents to closely monitor the activities of their children to keep them away from dubious groups.
