Espino taps senior citizens to bring back the ‘good old days’
LINGAYEN—Governor Amado Espino Jr. has sought the support of the elderly sector for a moral revolution in the province.
Espino, speaking before members of the Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines (FSCAP)-Pangasinan Chapter during the culminating activity of the Senior Citizens Month celebration on October 25, called for a return of the “good old days” when Pangasinenses placed moral principles on top of their life values.
The governor asked the senior citizens to live up to their responsibility to help chart a better future for the younger generation by instilling such values as respect for elders, love for the province and the Pangasinan language.
Espino said cultivating moral values is critical to the local government’s thrust of making Pangasinan one of the best provinces in the country.
Meanwhile, Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr. commended the support of the senior citizens to the province’s development.
In recognition of their contributions, the provincial government, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, conducted a search for the most outstanding senior citizens and the best senior citizens center as one of the highlights of the celebration.
This year’s most outstanding senior citizen is Dr. Cristeta Rosario of Mangatarem, followed by Carlos Nuevo (Agno), Edith Casaclang (Binmaley), Gerardo Nierva (Pozorrubio) and Aurora Dancel (Alcala) in 2nd to 5th slots.
Cited as the five best senior citizens center are: 1) Villasis; 2) Mangatarem; 3) Asingan; 4) Binmaley; 5) Calasiao.
Cesar Mina, President of FSCAP Pangasinan, thanked the provincial government officials for the assistance and support which are regularly accorded to their association. (PIO)
