Espino leads 2nd ‘I Love Pangasinan’ campus tour
LINGAYEN—Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. explained the importance of loving the province which is anchored on four aspects – love of family, love of community, love of friends, and love of God – in his message to students for the second wave of the “Baruy Pangasinan-I Love Pangasinan” campus tour held November 9 and 11.
Espino visited schools in Ilocano-speaking towns last week, the Tayug National High School on November 9 and the Umingan National High School on November 11 for the formal introduction of the provincial hymn entitled “Luyag Ko Tan Yaman”.
Espino said the provincial hymn was written in Pangasinan to “manifest the genuine identity and roots of every Filipino living in Pangasinan regardless of his or her medium of communication.”
The governor also said his love for Pangasinan prompted him to run for governorship in 2007 as he was “deeply challenged to reconstruct a fragmented province”.
Tayug Mayor Carlos Trece Mapili commended the leadership of Espino and thanked him for all the projects the governor has delivered to their town.
Mary Lynne Bautista, principal of Tayug National High School, also lauded the governor as she confirmed that the four classrooms pledged by the provincial government will house the students comprising the Special Program for Arts (SPA) section in music.
Bautista said the section was opened as an expression of support to the governor’s call to revive Pangasinan arts and culture.
Pangasinense songs, she said, will be incorporated in their regular lessons.
Umingan Mayor Eldred Tumbocon, for his part, commended the provincial chief executive for his effort to revive the culture and tradition of Pangasinan as he said that even if Umingan is primarily an Ilocano-speaking community, the introduction of Pangasinan is very much welcome in their town.
The mayor also thanked Espino for the development programs delivered to their town, specifically on infrastructure.
The governor said the vision and mission set by the present administration is simple: “It embodies everything that can be done either by young and adult Pangasinenses,” he said.
The vision of the province is: Pangasinan – The best place to invest, work, live and raise a family; while the mission is: To make Pangasinan number 1.
He said that if every Pangasinense can think of ways on how to express his or her love for the province, Pangasinan will definitely become a livable place. “But first, Pangasinenses must first be familiar with their culture and heritage,” he added.
“Let us be the first to know our province by heart and mind,” the governor said.
The ‘I Love Pangasinan’ campaign was launched last September during the celebration of the Tourism Month and began to require all public schools to sing the Pangasinan Hymn ,“Luyag Ko Tan Yaman”, as part of the regular flag raising ceremony.
More schools will be visited by the provincial team headed by the Tourism Operations Division headed by Ma. Luisa Elduayan. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
