Deaf and other PWDs briefed on benefits
DEAF AWARENESS WEEK
THE Dagupan City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) observed “Deaf Awareness Week” through activities aimed at empowering those who are hearing-impaired.
Forty deaf children and youth, together with their parents, were briefed on the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons and informed of their rights, privileges and incentives on purchasing basic and prime commodities, especially medicines for various ailments.
“We also taught them how to avail of these rights with documents, and how to have their own Persons with Disabilities (PWD) I.D.,” said Leila Natividad, officer-In-charge at the CSWDO.
Participants were taught where, how and when to report cases of abuses.
Natividad stressed that in cases where a PWD cannot personally purchase his grocery items and medicines, his authorization letter, I.D. and purchase booklet must be presented by his representative.
A PWD is entitled to five percent discount for grocery items and 20 percent discount for medicines prescribed by doctors. (CIO)
