THE Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) honored Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez as one of its 12 awardees during the agency’s 39th founding anniversary celebration on Nov. 17 in the capital.

Fernandez, the lone awardee from Region 1, was cited for her instrumental role in organizing the first “Barkada Kontra Droga” in Pangasinan and Northern Luzon and for her other youth-oriented projects in Dagupan.

The awarding ceremony coincided with the observance of Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week with the theme “Global Action for Healthy Community without Drugs”.

Fernandez thanked the DDB, headed by Secretary Antonio Villar Jr., for recognizing her efforts in drug prevention and said the award will inspire her to work harder for the youth of Dagupan.

Fernandez announced that she is now working with the Department of Education, the Parents-Teachers Association Federation and the Barkada Kontra Droga on a program to give awards to drug-free and “Hataw”-free barangays in Dagupan.

The DDB also recognized Fernandez for her programs for children, especially the hosting of two Dagupan Children’s Congresses for consecutive years.

In the Children’s Congress this year, she tied up with the Department of Science and Technology in  bringing  the Space Week Celebration.
