Catholics gather for 11-11-11 rosary prayer
ABOUT 11,000 youth and adults gathered at the Saint John Metropolitan Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. last Friday, dated 11-11-11, to pray the Holy Rosary and participate in the project “A Million Roses for the World (AMROW)”.
Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas and Auxiliary Bishop Renato Mayugba led the gathering that featured singing and reciting the rosary, participated in mostly by young people from the parishes and Catholic schools in the archdiocese.
The participants also held a procession from the Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension to the Cathedral.
Archbishop Villegas explained that the gathering was a campaign to pray one million and one hundred rosaries all over Catholic schools, colleges and universities nationwide simultaneously at 11:00 a.m. of November 11, 2011.
“The rosary is the life of our Blessed Lord from the eyes of His Blessed Virgin Mother. This campaign aims to teach our youth that prayer can change the world and people who pray can change the destinies of peoples. Indeed there can be no world peace without prayer,” the archbishop said.
The participants brought with them rosaries and white handkerchiefs that they waved to meet the entry of the Lady of Manaoag.
After the mass, Archbishop Villegas led priests in releasing white doves outside the cathedral to symbolize peace in the whole world.
