BANI—This town in western Pangasinan is the first and only municipality in the country that has completed its water resistivity survey.

Mayor Marcelo Navarro Jr. also announced during the Pangasinan Press Club’s ‘Media in Action’ forum last Friday that the town will receive a P10-million grant from the National Anti-Poverty Commission for the provision of potable water in its barangays.

The water resistivity survey, conducted by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in all of Bani’s barangays, identified water sources, volume, depth and how to tap these for public use.

With the P10 million funding, Bani will set up distribution systems that will bring potable water to the households, including those in the remote areas.

The project is scheduled to start early next year, according to the mayor.

Navarro said since the government fund will not be enough to cover all the town’s 50,000 residents in about 10,000 households, the local government is tapping international agencies from Japan and the Netherlands to assist in the construction of a solar power-generated hydro project.

Bani has been known to be among the towns facing potable water supply difficulties.

Most households rely on private and public deep wells and springs.

Nonetheless, the town has managed to prevent any outbreak of water-borne diseases due to the lack of potable water. (EV)
