LINGAYEN—“Pangasinan should be the gateway to tourism, teaching, technology and teamwork.”

This was the message of former President Fidel V. Ramos during the launching of his book 111111-111 FVR WOW last November 11 at the Sison Auditorium here.

The former President commended the leadership of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. to whom he gave the monicker GATE that translates to “gateway to progress and peace” for Pangasinan.

“Be a part of the gateway leading to Number One. Kulang ang daang tuwid. Kailangan nag daang tama thru the gate,” he said.

Espino, for his part, hailed Ramos for his latest endeavour and described the book, a collection of the latter’s timeless quotes that summarizes the best practices in citizenship and governance, not only as an inspiration for every reader and leader of society to make the best in a lifetime, but it serves as a timely inspiration in the province’s quest to become ‘Number One’.

The book is authored by Melandrew T. Velasco, a Pangasinese, who served as a public relations officer for Ramos as well as Espino when he was the provincial director.

Velasco said both leaders share a lot of things in common.

“They are both generous, both great taskmasters, both dedicated sons to their fathers,” Velasco said.

The book launching was attended by the members of the Provincial Board headed by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr., some local government unit officials led by Mayor Noel Nacar, Philippine National Police officials spearheaded by Provincial Director Rosueto Ricaforte, representatives from different sectors and line agencies, student leaders, FVR’s classmates, provincial department heads and chiefs of hospitals, and Pangasinan First Lady Priscilla Espino.

The event coincided with the 111th birth anniversary of the late Ambassador Narciso Rueca Ramos, the former President’s father.

The book launch was highlighted by the unveiling of Ambassador Ramos’ bust with side activities like book signing and press conference. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
