UL awards team in SIFE World Cup

THE University of Luzon (UL) held a testimonial ceremony and presentation of awards for its team that participated in the Student in Free Enterprise (SIFE) World Cup held i in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Oct. 3 to 5.

The team, representing the Philippines, qualified for the semi-finals of the competition that the University of Regensburg in Germany eventually won.

The awardees include the presenters, Blas Jordan Matias, Lora Thana Santiago,

John Eddie Gonzales, Aimee Rose Espinosa, Russel Justin Cruz, Sunny Luigi Prado; project leaders, Jennifer Caragay, Jessie Marie Idos, Prince Ulysses Diaz, Francis Baroma, Robycorahelga Marcos, Maureen Gamboa and Patricia Ayla Marie Geronimo.

The team won the national championship last July 22 through its ARISE (Agenda for Reforms and Initiatives toward Sustainable Economy) Program.

ARISE is composed of Project Save Plus (Sustainable Actions for Viable Entrepreneurship Plus), Project i Care (Intensified Community Actions to Rescue the Earth), Project WELL (Women “Energizement” for Life-long Livelihood) and Project WOW (Wealth on Wonders) Ifugao.

The university also conferred Salamat Po awards to several partners who helped the UL- SIFE team, including Dagupan’s Waste Management Division, university information officer Ryan Ravanzo, the Philippine Information Agency, and Pilipinas SIFE National Program Director Vilma Ocromas.

Dr. Carmelo John Vidal, director for extension services and SIFE adviser, said educational institutions should not be limited to instructions and research but must also have extension programs to help in community development.

University President Mac Arthur Samson Sr. said the achievements of the UL-SIFE illustrate the strength of the university’s extension programs. (PIA/Pangasinan)
