RESIDENTS of Sitio Longos, Bonuan Boquig in Dagupan City received 600 kilos of rice in exchange for their household plastic wastes turned over to the “Plastic Mo, Bigas Ko Palit Tayo” project spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Central Pangasinan.

Councilor Jeslito Seen, who assisted in the project implementation, said with the success of the project in the barangay being a pilot area, plans are now being prepared to replicate it in other communities in Dagupan City starting January next year.

The 650 households in Bonuan Boquig turned over their plastic materials, particularly those that are not being bought by junk shops including bottles and discarded home furniture.

The collected plastic materials were collected by the Solid Waste Commission in Valenzuela City for recycling into various furniture for the Don Leon Maramba Elementary School.

The project was undertaken in collaboration with the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), the Supreme Pupil Government (SPG) of the Don Leon Maramba Elementary School, the communications group DELTACOM, and the Bonuan Boquig barangay council headed by Chairman Willy Datuin.

Seen thanked the students, particularly the SPG, for campaigning in the community for the collection of the plastic materials in exchange for rice.

The Rotary Club of Central Pangasinan, headed by Andy Sy with Celso Salazar as project chairman, also conducted a raffle with t-shirts and basketballs as prizes.
