PUJ operators hit defective Pantawid Pasada cards

THE federation of local transport groups in Pangasinan complained to the Department of Energy (DOE) that many issued Pantawid Pasada cards are defective.

Benny Aquino, president of the Alliance of United Transport Organizations Provincewide (AUTOPRO), said that as a result of the failure of government to verify and check each issued card, many jeepney operators have no longer bothered to claim their cards for the fuel subsidy from government.

Siguro yong iba nadismaya nong malaman na wala palang laman yong card,” he said during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency.

AUTOPRO has filed its complaint with the DOE field office in Urdaneta, including a list of operators who had problems with their cards.

Another problem cited by the group is the continued reference to an old listing of operators that has not been updated making new owners ineligible to qualify for the program.

May mga card na iba yong nakapangalan dahil bago na yong operator,” Aquino said.

The head of the Land Transportation Office in Dagupan, Francisco Fabia, earlier said many Pantawid Pasada cards remain unclaimed in his office.

The Pantawid Pasada program, launched in Dagupan on May 18, is a nationwide project aimed at augmenting the income of jeepney drivers given the rise in fuel prices.

There are some 3,000 jeepney units plying the entire province, of which about 1,800 are members of AUTOPRO. (DOS/PIA Pangasinan)
