Pangasinan to send trade mission to Guam
LINGAYEN—A trade mission from Pangasinan will leave for Guam on the first week of November to promote the province’s products such as mangoes, milkfish, bagoong, furniture, handicrafts and native food.
Governor Amado Espino Jr. said this was firmed up after the visit here Thursday of two senators from the 31st Legislature of Guam who exchanged notes with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan stating intents of both local governments to establish a sisterhood pact.
The trade mission will visit Guam ahead of the arrival of a medical mission from Guam sponsored by the Federation of Pangasinan on Guam (FOPOG) on November 12.
Espino said the trade mission will ascertain what Pangasinan can provide the people of Guam, where most things are imported given its location and geography.
The planned sisterhood relationship of Pangasinan with Guam is a big boon to the province, especially in terms of employment as there will be a need for skilled workers for the construction of a huge U.S. Naval Base to be transferred from Okinawa, Japan.
Espino said Guamenians prefer Filipinos to work in the U.S. Bases because they have the necessary experience which were acquired by them when the Americans had their bases in Clark, Subic and Cavite.
MEDICAL MISSION
Meanwhile, the FOPOG-sponsored medical mission next month is part of the annual activity conducted by the group.
During last year’s mission, Espino asked FOPOG members to help facilitate a sisterhood pact between Pangasinan and Guam, which prompted the group to bring the two Guam senators for a visit here.
