P300M needed for rehabilitation
AFTER TYPHOONS ‘PEDRING’, ‘QUIEL’
LINGAYEN—At least P300 million is needed for the rehabilitation plan submitted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) following the destruction caused by typhoons ‘Pedring’ and ‘Quiel’.
PDRRMC Spokesperson Avenix Arenas said the proposed rehab plan covers damages, estimated at P886 million, in agriculture and infrastructure as well as provision for social welfare and health.
“Kapag na-approve na ni Gov. Amado Espino, for implementation na yung rehab plan,” Arenas said.
Earlier, P83 million was released from the calamity fund when the province was declared under a state of calamity on October 3.
Arenas said this amount from the calamity fund is “too small” to finance the rehabilitation.
With limited resources, the council may resort to Republic Act 101-21, which allows the full utilization of the Local DRRMC fund that accounts for five percent of the local funds.
“Pag nagkulang pa rin, puwede tayong humingi sa national government,” she said.
At the same time, Arenas stressed that the PDRRMC’s preemptive measures helped minimize damages in the last two typhoons.
“Hindi tayo nagkulang.“ she said as scored the refusal of some to cooperate with the measures being undertaken at the time. (PIA-Pangasinan)
