National Statistics Center opens in Pangasinan
LINGAYEN–Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. commended the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) for the support and trust it has given to Pangasinan through the establishment of the National Statistical Information Center (NSIC) satellite, the first in Region 1 and the entire Luzon, and the sixth in the country.
During the formal launching and blessing of the center held October 24 at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center here, Espino expressed his full commitment to the project as he said that the provincial government will ensure that resources are available to sustain the operation of the one-stop-shop with an objective to develop a system of integrated sharing of statistical information involving the province and the entire region, as well.
The governor also said that the establishment of the NSIC satellite in Pangasinan will serve as an added inspiration for Pangasinenses to work doubly hard to attain the vision to become the best place to invest, work, live and raise a family and fulfill its mission to become the Number 1 province in the entire country.
The establishment of the center, according to the governor, came as a reward for the province having bagged several awards in different fields of endeavour, especially the Hall of Fame award for being the Best NSM province for three consecutive years in Region 1 which proves that Pangasinan is the most statistically developed local government unit region-wide.
Meanwhile, Dr. Romulo A. Virola, Secretary General of the NSCB, congratulated the province as he commended the leadership of Espino who catapulted several remarkable achievements since he assumed his post in July 2007.
Virola challenged the present administration to continue what it has started to attain its vision and mission which he dubbed “ambitious yet not impossible to achieve” thru the stewardship of the Governor. However, the secretary general further said that “statistics must challenge Pangasinenses to achieve better marks in the future towards the improvement of the quality of life of the people.”
After the program proper, the blessing of the center which is located at the 2nd floor of Malong building was held, officiated by Rev. Fr. Vic Embuido.
NSIC was first established in Makati City on October 20, 1993 through a project jointly implemented with the Statistics Sweden and the Swedish International Development Agency. It aims to provide a one-stop-venue where users can access statistical data generated by government agencies.
The establishment of the center is part of the highlights of the provincial celebration of the 22nd National Statistics Month.
Joining the Governor and the NSCB in the launching and blessing rites, are Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr. with Board Member Raul Sison, Chairman of National Statistics Month Celebration in Pangasinan, Board Member Amadeo Espino, department heads, officials from NEDA Regional office, Department of Education officials and representatives of various local agencies.
