National Astronomy Week celebration in Dagupan set
THE rockets and robots displayed during the Space Week Celebration in Dagupan City from Oct. 3 to 6 that awed some 18,000 students participating in the 2nd Dagupan Children’s Week will stage a comeback in February 2012 with the holding of another fun-filled Astronomy Week.
Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, co-sponsor of the 2nd Children’s Congress, said the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is again negotiating to bring the Astronomy Week Celebration to Dagupan next year following the success of the Space Week celebration.
She said if the project pushes through, the Astronomy Week will feature a Space Camp outdoor for students, to be co-sponsored again by the Department of Education and the CSI Group of Companies.
Fernandez thanked the public and private schools, parents and teachers in Dagupan for making the students participate in the 2nd Children’s Week whose main feature, the Space Week Celebration, showcased robotics technology.
She also announced the holding of the Sari-Sari Store Fair from October 27 to 31 this month at the CSI Stadia where all sari-sari storeowners in Pangasinan and Region 1 are invited.
The fair will also provide big discounts for sari-sari storeowners and buyers, especially workers in the government and private sector.
Other events unfolding at CSI Stadia are a Volleyball Clinic for Women in November and 3-on-3 basketball competitions for the different barangays of Dagupan to be sponsored by the Basketball Association of the Philippines, of which Fernandez is the regional director.
The Volleyball Clinic for Women will reserve 500 slots for women, 400 of whom will come from Dagupan and 100 from Pangasinan and different parts of Region1.
The Clinic will be sponsored by Shakey’s which will be bringing its own players to hold the Clinic.
Such a clinic normally costs P3,000 per participant but Shakey’s agreed not to charge a single centavo at the request of Fernandez.
