DDB turns over P6M for drug rehab center
THE Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) has turned over P6 million to the Region 1 Medical Center last week for the construction of the dormitory and recreational facilities of the Treatment and Drug Rehabilitation Center in Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City.
Another P4 million will be released upon liquidation of the initial P6 million, which was handed to Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez by DDB Chairman Antonio Villar Jr. in Manila.
Fernandez, who is working with DDB in the youth-oriented project “Barkada Laban sa Droga”, also turned over the fund to Dr. Roland Mejia, chief of R1MC that will operated the rehab center.
During the launching of “Barkada Laban sa Droga” in Dagupan earlier this year, Villar committed to provide financial assistance for the completion of the center.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod also passed a resolution asking DDB for a contribution for the center, whose construction was stalled due to lack of funds.
Mejia thanked the DDB and Fernandez for the financial assistance that will partly cover the P45 million that is still needed for the full completion of the complex.
The Department of Health (DOH) is also set to release P10 million for the project, to be matched by a P4 million fund from the budget of R1MC.
Mejia said he is hoping that the remaining P20 million will soon be covered.
The treatment and drug rehab center was initiated by former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and continued by his wife, Fourth District Rep. Gina De Venecia, with a combined P15 million for the administration building. The DOH earlier provided P9 million after the R1MC took over the project from the Department of Public Works and Highways.
