Cop-robber, 2 accomplices die in shoot-out
LINGAYEN—A cop and his two companions in a robbery were killed in an encounter with policemen of Pozorrubio town shortly after they held up a tricycle driver in the morning of October 11.
The rogue policeman, who was off duty during the incident, was identified as PO1 Munib K. Dalimbang, assigned in Malasiqui.
Dalimbang and his two companions were fleeing on board a motorcycle shortly after they held up a tricycle driver in Poblacion, Pozorrubio when the encounter happened.
Chief Inspector Satur Ediong, chief of police of Pozorrubio, identified the two other fatalities as Jonald Almerol Pangkalan, a resident of Pozorrubio, and one Larry Almiro, allegedly from the Visayas.
Ediong said the group of Dalimbang fired first, prompting the policemen on patrol to fire back.
ISOLATED CASE
Superintendent Geraldo Roxas , chief of the Police-Community Relations of the Pangasinan police, stressed that Dalimbang was an “isolated case” and the police force in the province is not composed of rogues.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Rosueto Ricaforte, police provincial director, said he felt sorry for Dalimbang who was newly married and had no derogatory record in the force.
Nonetheless, he said an investigation on Dalimbang’s group will continue to verify if they perpetrated other crimes in Pozorrubio and adjacent towns.
Dalimbang was first assigned at the Binalonan and Pozorrubio police stations before he was transferred to Malasiqui.
Recovered from the three suspects were Caliber 45 pistol, Caliber 38 revolver and a hand grenade.
It was not known immediately if one of the firearms recovered from the dead suspects was Dalimbang’s service firearm as a policeman.
Meanwhile, Police Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus Bucayu, Region 1 police director, warned police personnel of severe disciplinary action if they are found engaging in illegal activities.
Bucayu said he will not tolerate any wrongdoing from any member of his command.
“Disciplinary actions will be imposed immediately against erring police personnel in keeping with the 10-Point Action Plan of the PNP chief, particularly on Strengthening the Reward and Disciplinary System,” he said.
