BSL seeks authority to sell MC Adore anew

DAGUPAN Mayor Benjamin Lim is trying a different tack on the sale of the controversial MC Adore property.

Citing the expected cut in the city’s Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) next year, Lim has asked the Sangguninang Panlungsod (SP) to give him the authority to sell the MC Adore property that has been idle and derelict since Lim purchase directed its purchase through a loan he was mayor in 2002.

Lim made the request in a letter dated October 3 addressed to Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, chair of the SP.

Lim, in a press statement, “assured the public as well as the local council that transparency and good faith will be observed in the transaction”.

Fernandez earlier said the property that has been tagged a white elephant, “should not be sold for a song”.

Lim earlier accused the city council of failing to do it job when the latter did not respond to the offer made initially by Arbros Realty Corporation, a prominent realty company, to buy MC Adore at P68 million.

Arbos has since withdrawn its offer but another local company, Managen Realty Development Corporation, proposed to purchase the property for P75 million.

Lim endorsed both offers to the SP and in both instances asked the city council for authority to negotiate its sale but the city council refused to grant the authority requested by the mayor.

The slash in the city’s IRA allotment was never used by the mayor in the past to prod the city council to grant him authority to sell the property. (With report from CIO)
