Wanted: Ex-Marine for rape

BAYAMBANG—A former member of the Philippine Marines, accused of rape in Cavite province, is now the object of an intensive manhunt after he escaped from policemen who raided his house in Barangay Malimpec here to serve his warrant of arrest in the afternoon of September 20.

The suspect, Arturo Camacho, ran towards a forested area at the back of his house when policemen arrived to serve the warrant of arrest for rape issued by the 4th Judicial Region Branch 20 in Imus, Cavite.

Neighbors tipped the police when they saw Camacho arriving at his residence, where he was living alone, armed with high-powered firearms, including an M16 assault rifle.

The raid conducted by members of the Bayambang Police led by Superintendent Lloyd Milan, chief of police, took place at 1:00 p.m., joined by barangay officials led by Chairman Richard Pulhin.

Seized by lawmen from the house of Camacho were a Smith and Wesson snub-nose revolver, 77 rounds of ammunition of caliber .45 pistol, assorted ammunition for caliber 7.62, six long magazine and short magazine assemblies for caliber 5.56 rifle.

Also recovered from the suspect’s double-deck bed are two rocket-propelled grenades, two live 81-mm RPG mortars, seven empty shells for 105-mm rifle, one C4 bar, two pieces of C4 assembly with detonating cord, assorted detonating cord and a fragmentation grenade.

It took lawmen several hours to clear Camacho’s house of explosives.
