PRISAA UCAAP BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

THE Flames are burning hot!

A rookie of the University of Pangasinan-PHINMA Flames, Marck Odomene, fired vital shots as his team thwarted the Lyceum-Northwestern University Dukes, 85-79, in overtime of Game 1 of the best-of-three finals series in the Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. Cup of the PRISAA-UCAAP Collegiate Basketball Championship held September 27 at the Peoples Astrodome in Dagupan City.

At regulation time, the score was tied at 75.

Odomene top-scored for the game with 35 points, his season and career high, 29 of which were pumped during regulation time even as four Dukes scored in double figures – John Paul Cabucol (17 points), Julius Palaganas (16), Mariano Catabay (13), and George Alipio (12).

After the game, Flames coach Jay Ronquillo credited his wards for giving their best to clinch a pivotal win against the Dukes who defeated them twice in the elimination round.

Game 2 is on Tuesday and should the Flames win, they will bag the 2011 PRISAA UCAAP tiara which they last wore in 2005.

For the Dukes, who were champion in 2009, coach Angel Gumarang said his men fought hard but were really outsmarted by the Flames in the dying seconds of the regulation and extra period, lamenting that only one two-point goal and two splits of free throws were made in the five-minute over time.—(PrisaaUcaapReport/P.C.)
