Espino reiterates call for caution this rainy season

LINGAYEN–Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. appealed to all Pangasinense to take all necessary precautions not only when there is a storm signal raised over the province but also during times of continuous rains such as in the case of typhoon “Mina” that spawned heavy downpour in the last five days starting August 25.

The Governor, who also heads the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC), assured for a better coordination with other line agencies to include the San Roque Dam even as he said that protocol will be followed with regards to the releasing of dam water is concerned.

The provincial chief executive also said that the provincial government will extend assistance to families whose houses were destroyed during the onslaught of typhoon Mina, especially to the fatalities, the Bautista siblings, in Rabon, San Fabian, who died when their house was covered with mud due to landslide.

According to the Governor, close coordination with the authorities of the affected areas, particularly the flooded towns of San Fabian, Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Manaoag, San Jacinto, Binalonan, Pozorrubio, Laoac, San Nicolas and Urdaneta City, is being conducted on a regular basis.

Sets of heavy equipment of the provincial government were deployed for clearing operations of various roads in San Fabian, Mangaldan, Lingayen, Calasiao and Sta. Barbara, which were most affected by the typhoon.

As of August 30, 5 p.m., 348 families of the total 431 families who sought shelter to evacuation centers have returned home, leaving only 83 who are still housed in several evacuation centers.

The various Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils have attended to these evacuees, while the PDRRMC augmented some 300 packs of relief goods as requested by the MDRRMCs in several towns.

Based on report from the PDRRMC, a total of only 10 houses were totally damaged, while 14 houses were partially damaged.

The missing fishermen from five fishing boats who went fishing days before the typhoon have all returned in good health condition, according to Infanta Mayor Ruperto Martinez and reports from the coast guard.
