UL to represent Phl in SIFE World Cup
THE University of Luzon (UL) will be the Philippine representative in the 2011 Student in Free Enterprise (SIFE) World Cup to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on October 3 to 5.
The SIFE World Cup is a competition among higher education institutions for the best “application of business concepts to develop outreach”.
UL earned entry into the competition after besting 14 other colleges and universities in the country. It will present its ARISE (Agenda for Reforms and Initiatives toward Sustainable Economy) Program.
The ARISE Program is aimed at empowering high-risk and marginalized sectors of the community, with particular focus on children, unemployed women, out-of-school-youth, and persons with disabilities, for financial independence. Environmental protection is also addressed.
The program has so far benefitted 4,686 families including creation of alternative livelihood for 800 fisher folks, generation of fund amounting to P150,000 from clean-up drive and garbage collections, training and employment for jobless women in Dagupan City, and the preservation of the Ifugao Rice Terraces in Banaue.
ARISE Program comprises Project Save Plus (Sustainable Actions for Viable Entrepreneurship Plus), Project i Care (Intensified Community Actions to Rescue the Earth), Project WELL (Women “Energizement” for Life-long Livelihood) and Project WOW (Wealth on Wonders) Ifugao.
The UL delegation will join some 1,000 students, 100 faculty members and administrators, and 400 business people and judges from 39 countries. (PIA Pangasinan)
