Espino distributes 4th batch of fish nets to marginal fishermen

LINGAYEN–Some 630 fishing paraphernalia were distributed to marginal fishermen from 51 barangays in Binmaley, Lingayen, Bugallon, San Fabian, Labrador and San Carlos City on August 25 under the provincial government’s “Ilog Ko, Bilayen tan Aroen Ko” Livelihood Assistance Project.

Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. led the distribution, which is the fourth batch under the program with now a total of 2,200 fishnets distributed.

The livelihood program is intended for fishermen who have been affected by the massive dismantling of illegal structures conducted by the Task Force Kalikasan of the provincial government as part of efforts to clear and protect Pangasinan’s rivers.

Espino urged the barangay officials to help the people form cooperatives or livelihood groups in their respective barangay to avail of more assistance from the province as well as livelihood assistance loan to be facilitated by the Landbank of the Philippines and guaranteed by the provincial government.

He also appealed to all members of the barangay councils to “lead by example” in furthering the cause of cleaning and clearing the province’s rivers and waterways.

Furthermore, Espino explained that regulations set by the provincial government on fishing must be strictly implemented.

Another batch of fishnets will be distributed next month. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
