LINGAYEN–The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has enacted provincial resolution no. 680-2011 authorizing Governor Amado Espino Jr. to bid for, in behalf of the provincial government, the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa 2012.

The Palarong Pambansa is the biggest annual athletic competition nationwide conducted by the Department of Education (DepEd) and participated in by elementary and high school students both from public and private schools.

The resolution was authored by Board Members Ranjit Shahani, Angel Baniqued, Jeremy Agerico Rosario and Danilo Uy.

Last May, Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan, Sports Coordinator Modesto Operania, and four board members, went to Dapitan City in Zamboanga Del Norte to signify Pangasinan’s readiness to host the 2012 games.

Shahani said, “Ang probinsya ng Pangasinan lang ang kumpleto ng sports facilities, yung mga ibang nakiki-bid ay kulang sa venue.”

The first and only time Pangasinan hosted the Palarong Pambansa was in 1995 when one of the province’s most prominent sons, Fidel Ramos, was president of the Philippines. (PIO/Darwin Magalong)
