PHO: Check water quality of refilling stations
THE Provincial Health Office (PHO) has advised consumers to be cautious about water sold by refilling stations, a preferred option especially during the rainy season when water distribution systems could be contaminated from flooding.
Provincial Health Officer Anna de Guzman said water sold by refilling stations could already be contaminated if it has been stored for more than two weeks.
The diseases that may be acquired from consumption of unsafe water include cause E. coli infection, diarrhea, amoebiasis, among others.
De Guzman said refilling stations are required to have their water checked twice a month and to post the result at the shop where consumers can see it.
She advised consumers to check the water analysis results that are posted and verify if the report posted is recent.
De Guzman also stressed that under the Sanitation Code of the Philippines, local government units (LGU) are mandated to ensure the safety of commercial water.
The LGU also has the authority to issue a closure order to the non-compliant. (With report from PIA-Pangasinan)
