Nacar, new PML president
THE Pangasinan Mayors’ League (PML) elected last Friday a new president to replace Bugallon Mayor Ricardo Orduña who resigned his post in late May claiming health reasons.
Mayor Noel Nacar of the western town of Dasol won the PML election, beating Mayor Teodoro Cruz of Mangatarem, a former congressman.
Of the 38 town mayors who attended the election called by Lingayen Mayor Ernesto Castañeda, PML executive vice president, 21 voted for Nacar while 17 for Cruz.
The PML decided to elect a new president as Castañeda, who would have automatically taken the post of president, was reluctant to assume the position.
Nacar called on his fellow mayors to unite behind Governor Amado Espino Jr. and help push his development agenda for Pangasinan.
Nacar, a two-term mayor, will serve the unexpired term of Orduña whose resignation sparked speculations he had a spat with the governor.
Orduña’s younger brother, Paterno, a retired police colonel, resigned as executive assistant IV and concurrent executive director of the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council of the provincial government last July 1.
Paterno, in a press conference, clarified that he remained in good terms with Espino and his resignation was upon the advice of his doctor to refrain from strenuous work because of his health condition.
