URDANETA CITY–The police seized large volumes of marijuana in separate operations in two cities in the province, one here on the night of July 12 and another in Dagupan City on July 8.

In both cases, the suspected drug carriers were using public transport between Baguio City and Pangasinan to move the illegal marijuana bricks.

Here in Urdaneta, the police questioned the driver of a passenger van that just arrived at the terminal from Baguio City after six marijuana bricks weighing six kilos were seized from the vehicle.

The driver of the van, identified as Ronnie Claustro, was brought to the office of the Special Operations Group (SOG) for investigation.

In Dagupan, a 21-year old man identified as Allan Kevin Miller, carrying five marijuana bricks weighing five kilos, was arrested in Barangay Bolosan in a buy-bust operation jointly conducted by the police and barangay officials.

The operation was conducted after the police received information from the SOG that marijuana will be unloaded in Dagupan City by suspected drug runners.

A case for violation of the anti-drugs law was filed against the arrested suspect.

SOG teams led by Superintendent Ronald Gayo, group director, earlier placed the passenger terminals in Urdaneta and Tayug town under surveillance after receiving a report that a drug trafficking syndicate shipped marijuana bricks from Baguio through a passenger van.

The marijuana bricks, wrapped in plastic, was consigned to one Alex Barlongo, one of the drug personalities in Tayug listed in the Philippine National Police watch list and has several pending drug cases filed before the Regional Trial Court, Branch 51 in Tayug.

Barlongo, suspected to be a member of a drug syndicate based in Baguio and Benguet, was supposed to pick up the shipment at the Urdaneta terminal but did not show up, possibly after having learned that the police might have already been tipped off.
