Malasiqui adopts skills registry system
THE Skills Registry System (SRS), intended to address the prevalent mismatch in employment and skills among the employed, has been adopted by Malasiqui, the fourth local government unit in Region 1 to do so.
The municipality of Malasiqui signed last Monday an agreement with the regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) for the implementation of the SRS.
The signatories were 3rd District Representative Rachel Arenas and Mayor Arman Domantay Sr. and DoLE Regional Director Henry John Jalbuena.
Jalbuena said that Malasiqui’s participation is valuable in expanding the program to improve the quality of employment, especially at the grassroots level.
Under the agreement, the municipal government will mobilize barangay officials and other personnel in the implementation of SRS activities such as purposive data gathering, encoding of manpower information, storage and updating of register and preparation of reports.
The SRS serves as a “live” database where employers can advertise their manpower requirements while job seekers can post their skills, thereby facilitating job-matching.
JOB FAIR
The agreement was signed just before a job fair where 1,546 employment opportunities were on offer.
Jalbuena said the job fair facilitated the on-the-spot employment of seven jobseekers for Sutherland, Pampanga, one for Robinson’s Supermart in Calasiao, and two for Fibre Sorting in Pampanga.
The SRS was piloted in San Fernando City in La Union in December 2010. Other towns in Region 1 that have since adopted the program are Rosales in Pangasinan and Sudipen in La Union. (DOLE/PIA Pangasinan/DOS)
