Espino posts early lead over Agbayani
COMELEC RECOUNT
LINGAYEN–The recount of votes in connection with the election protest filed by defeated candidate Victor Agbayani against re-elected Governor Amado Espino Jr. before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) indicate that the latter has even more votes and won by a higher margin.
Unofficial summary reports from the recount, which started June 15, show that in 99 clustered precincts in separate towns and cities, Espino was credited with 81,420 votes against the Agbayani’s 31,195 votes.
Espino was proclaimed winner of the election for governor of Pangasinan based on the final result of the election showing he led by more than 500,000 votes against Agbayani, which is unprecedented in the election history of the province, which has a voting population of more than one million.
In the first 11 days of the recount from June 15 to July 11, Espino had more votes than Agabayani on each day.
If the trend continues with the remaining clustered precincts due for recount, observers say the Comelec Second Division could eventually decide to dismiss the election protest.
