THE chief of police of Dagupan City arrested his own cousin and two others involved in illegal drug dealing in a stake out operation conducted on July 25 in A.B. Fernandez Avenue East.

The police officer’s relative, identified as Efren Caramat, 30, a computer technician residing at 46 PNR Site in Dagupan, is a first cousin of Superintendent Rome Caramat, chief of police of Dagupan City.

Arrested with the suspect Alex Cervantes, 24, a mechanic, and Ranillo Fernandez, 31, of No. 369 Barrera Street, Dagupan who have been under surveillance for sometime.

Superintendent Caramat recognized Efren and quickly admitted the latter is his first cousin but stressed to the police operatives that arrested him that that he will not tolerate his illegal activities.

He said that since his cousin ran afoul with the law, he must suffer the consequence of his act.

Suspect Caramat admitted to the crime, saying he did this as he was lured by easy money.

He confessed he was making about P500 a day selling illegal drugs.

The police operatives were Joseph Dalope, chief investigator, and Ronnie Maramba, chief Intelligence Officer.

The suspects were caught in possession of one heat-sealed plastic sachet each, believed to be containing shabu (methamphetamine) , a lighter, an empty plastic sachet, aluminum foil, plastic container and one digital weighing scale all placed inside a plastic bag in the possession of Fernandez.

All the suspects will be initially charged with possession of illegal drugs since they were not caught in the act of selling shabu.

But their cases could be aggravated by the evidence of the digital weighing scale, which could be an indication that they are into drug pushing.
