Court battles for 21st PRISAA-UCAAP crown starts July 27
THE 21st season of the PRISAA-UCAAP (Private Schools Athletic Association-Universities and Colleges Athletic Association of Pangasinan) Collegiate Basketball Championships, dubbed “Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. Cup”, reels off on July 27, starting at 8 a.m., at the Dagupan City Peoples Astrodome.
Gov. Amado Espino Jr., the event’s guest speaker for the opening ceremonies, will induct into office the newly-elected officers and trustees of the PRISAA-UCAAP, Metro Dagupan Chapter, led by Atty. Gonzalo Duque, Lyceum-Northwestern University president and The PUNCH columnist
This year, seven teams are vying for the tournament’s crown: defending champion, University of Luzon Golden Tigers; Lyceum-Northwestern University Dukes; University of Pangasinan-PHINMA Flames; Colegio de Dagupan Blue Stallions; PAMMA Blue Dragons; PIMSAT Colleges Blades; and, AIE-College Golden Eagles. Immediately after the opening program, three games will pit six teams in their opening bids for contention.
Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin Lim is also expected to grace the affair.
Jesus Garcia, Jr., tournament commissioner and also a columnist of The PUNCH, said referees of BAP-BARECOM, NARECOM and NABRO have been accredited to officiate in the games.
The University of Luzon Drum and Bugle Corps, champions in the recent national competitions, will provide exhibition numbers before the opening games.–Philamer C. Celi
