LINGAYEN–The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group  (CIDG) has recommended the filing of cases for double homicide against six persons, four of them police officers, in connection with the death of a father and son in Barangay Lebueg, Laoac town last June 19.

The CIDG, headed by Chief Inspector Modesto Carera, recommended that charges be filed against Senior Inspector Lodovico Ellazar, chief of police of Laoac; PO3 Billy Collado, PO2 Jomar Camat and PO3 Erwin Lopez, all of the Laoac Police Station; and Barangay Chairman Edgar Ellazar, brother of the chief of police, and Councilman Rogelio Lopez, both of Barangay Lebueg.

Those who died in the shooting incident were Rodrigo Eleazar Jr., 62; and his son Gener, 36.

Both victims are relatives of the Laoac chief of police.

There is reportedly a long-standing feud among the suspects and victims involving family matters and politics.

The CIDG is the lead agency of the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) “Eleazar” formed by Police Regional Director Chief Superintendent Franklin Bucayu on June 20 to look into the incident.

Wounded in the shooting were P03 Lopez, Barangay Chairman Ellazar and Councilman Lopez who were treated at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Urdaneta City.

Two others persons, who were not identified, were recommended to be charged for the crimes of assault upon persons in authority and resisting arrests.

Superintendent Geraldo Roxas, spokesman of the Pangasinan Police Office, said the complaint of the CIDG is now being reviewed by the Provincial Prosecution Office.

During the investigation, the policemen involved in the shooting claimed self-defense in shooting the Eleazar father and son, alleging that both fired at them using caliber 45 pistols.

The policemen, who were reportedly responding to the indiscriminate firing allegedly by the father and son, were armed with M-16 and M-14 rifles.
