UPH-Tamayo Hospital holds medical mission

THE University of Perpetual Help-Dr. Jose G. Tamayo Hospital (UPH-DJGTH) in Malasiqui held a medical-surgical mission from June 3 to 5 in cooperation with volunteer doctors, nurses and Servants of the Holy Spirit Sisters of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Manila and the Craniofacial Foundation of the Philippines.

Dr. Jesus Roderick Tuazon, overall mission coordinator, said 60 indigent patients with thyroid masses, inguinal hernias, breast masses, soft tissue masses, cleft lip, cleft palate and gynecologic problems were given either major or minor surgical procedures.

Another 150 patients also benefited from free consultations and medicines donated by OLLH and other benefactors.

UPH-DJGTH Medical Director Dr. Anna Sofia Fajardo said the mission, dubbed “Kawanggawa ni Dr. J”, was held to commemorate the opening of the hospital and to highlight the legacy of its founder, the late Dr. Jose G. Tamayo.

Tamayo, a native of Malasiqui, opened the first primary level Perpetual Hospital in the early seventies.
