Top PH cyclists vying in Stradcom bikefest
PANGASINAN cyclists plus members of the national pool for the coming Southeast Asia Games will spearhead the “2011 Stradcom Cycling Cup” slated on June 19 in Bayambang town.
The bikefest, to be sponsored by businessman and philanthropist Cesar Quiambao, will be the kick-off event for the 400th founding anniversary celebration of Bayambang.
Jun Velasco, race chief coordinator, said among the well-known cyclists who vowed to participate are national pool standouts Llyod Reynante, Tots Oledan, Warren Davadilla of Manila, Joel Calderon, Oscar Rendole and Alfredo Asuncion of Nueva Ecija, Merculio Ramos, Jr., Joseph Millanes and Sherwin Diamsay of Tarlac and Pangasinan stalwarts headed by Tour champions Arnel Quirimit and Santy Barnachea, Ericson Obosa, Sherwin Carrera, Renato Sembrano, Baler Ravina, Reynaldo Navarro, Renier Clauna and Emilito Atilano.
More than P100,000 in cash prizes, trophies and medals are up for grabs for a maximum of 70 competitors.
“The event is our contribution in celebrating the commemorative 400 years foundation of Bayambang as a town… it is also our input to promote cycling not only to our province but also to our country and to sharpen the skills of our cyclists,” said Quiambao.
The race will start and end at Bayambang Municipal Hall and will traverse parts of Basista, San Carlos City, Binmaley, Lingayen, Labrador, Sual, Alaminos City, Bani, Agno, Mabini, back to Alaminos City, Sual, Labrador, Bugallon, Aguilar, Mangatarem, San Clemente and Camiling, Tarlac for an approximate distance of 210 kilometers.
