TESDA names 2 ‘fly-by-night’ training centers
TWO vocational-technical training centers operating in the province were recently exposed as “fly-by-night” establishments by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)
The two “mobile” training centers deemed operating illegally are Mobile Power, reportedly operating in Binalonan, and IAC with a still undetermined exact location. Both are not registered with TESDA and have been the subject of many complaints.
TESDA Provincial Director Manuel Wong said the agency will take legal actions against the two centers that are reportedly offering computer and electronics courses.
Since the two illegal training centers do not have registered programs, TESDA warned that their “graduates” cannot be certified nor their credentials authenticated by TESDA.
“Kawawa ang mga trainees,” Wong said during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency aired over Radyo ng Bayan-DZMQ on Tuesday.
He urged the public to first verify the TESDA accreditation of any training center before enrolling.
“Sumangguni muna sa TESDA kung registered ang nagsasabing training center,” he said and warned parents and students of misrepresentations by the illegal centers.
Vocational or technical schools are required to be accredited by TESDA, the regulating agency.
COMPETENCE
In another development, Wong clarified that the TESDA training centers implement a competency-based system that puts weight on the assessment made on the level of skills of technical or vocational graduates rather than the number of hours spent in training.
“Kung mabilis matuto, mabilis ding lumabas,” said Wong, adding that a trainee who learns fast need not wait for his contemporaries who need further training to complete the course.
He added that some private schools have also started to adopt the competency-based system.
TESDA has two training centers in the province: the Rosales Skills Training Center and the Lingayen Training Center.
The TESDA provincial office will soon offer 1,177 scholarship under the Private Education Student Financial Assistance (PESFA) program. (With report from DOS/PIA Pangasinan)
